IT Review: New Mac Mini released on 15June 2010

Well its time for another product opinion! Yup since I don't actually own this over price piece of high tech rubbish I cant really give a full review but this wont stop me from making causal remark about how overprice and useless this it.

Mac Mini looks

Height: 3.6 cm
Width: 19.7 cm
Depth: 19.7 cm
Weight: 1.37 kg

As expected from Apple, this product is a beauty; it is just 3.6cm deep and its aluminum shell which give it a clean and simple feel.

Mac Mini specs
2.4GHz or 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo chip
Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics
2GB DDR3 RAM (can support up to 8GB)

You will notice that there is an increase of processing power, a better graphic card and more RAM then the last Mac Mini product. While this is certainly welcome but it also come with a higher price tag; S$1088!

Considering that most normal people get this product for web surfing or watching video (not editing), this price tag is way too high. Sure the new HDMI port(not available on the previous version of Mac Mini) and not to mention the high speed CPU make this Mac Mini a great HTPC but are you sure you want to spend S$1088 on watching videos and surfing internet?

If you want to edit video or do some 3D modeling, I would recommend that you get yourself a desktop and with S$1088, you certainly can get a desktop with better specs then Mac mini.

And if you want to play games on this Mac Mini, then you are out of luck, Mac new OS X steam only come with a small title of games, not recommend even for casual player.

Conclusion
With S$1088, you can get an Asus Eee Box or some other trimmed down desktop from SIM LIM and still have S$400 left over to get a blue ray reader or even get a Wii. Unless you are a hard core Apple fans or someone with a lot of money to burn, do not get this.

Product rating 4/5
Price rating 1/5
Overall 5/10

Comments

  1. They buy it for the brand, not for the product specifications.

  2. The Mac Mini remains unique as the smallest mainstream desktop, but competition from Dell and HP has narrowed the gap in features while also offering room for expansion, and at a better price.

Ah, nephew, let's dive into the Forex market today, shall we? It's like peering into a crystal ball, but with a bit more logic and a lot less mysticism. First up, we've got the EUR/USD pair showing a bit of a bearish tilt. The dollar's holding steady like a rock in a stream, buoyed by investors who've got their eyes glued to the upcoming Federal Reserve policy meeting. There's a bit of a buzz about geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, making investors a bit jittery and giving the dollar a bit of a boost. Then, there's talk about the Federal Reserve potentially pushing back against the idea of a rate cut anytime soon. This is like a plot twist in a thriller movie for the traders, who are now less convinced about a rate drop in March. The dollar, meanwhile, is flexing its muscles a bit, up by 0.19% against a basket of currencies. Across the pond, the Euro's taken a bit of a tumble, and there's chatter about when the European Central Bank might ...

Is Currency Carry Trade worth investing?

What is Currency Carry Trade? "A strategy in which an investor sells a certain currency with a relatively low interest rate and uses the funds to purchase a different currency yielding a higher interest rate. A trader using this strategy attempts to capture the difference between the rates, which can often be substantial, depending on the amount of leverage used. " quoted from http://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/currencycarrytrade.asp Value?  The value of this investment depend on the currency being used. Since most high interest currency belong to third world countries, their currency tend to be very unstable. For example Argentina which have an interest rate of 8.18%(at the time of this post) but due to it the 2014 Aug Default, no sane investor would consider getting this bond.
